Jayson Tatum’s siblings, Jaycob and Kayden, play an important role in his life — even as he’s become one of the NBA’s top players, earning multiple All-Star selections and leading his team to a championship.
Although Jayson is also part of the vaunted Duke Blue Devils brotherhood from his college days, his roots are anchored in his family. Despite the demands of his professional career as a guard for the Boston Celtics, Tatum has maintained a close connection with his younger brother and sister, who are finding their own way in life.
While 10-year-old Kayden is thriving outside the spotlight, Jaycob is carving out his path in football at Western Illinois University. When he’s not on the field practicing his skills as a linebacker for the Leathernecks or studying for his classes, Jaycob stays up-to-date on Celtics games and tries to attend them as much as possible.
Speaking to Prairie State Pigskin in May 2023, he revealed that he even managed to recruit a “couple” of new Boston fans in Macomb, Ill. Jaycob also opened up about the pride he feels for his older brother — a sentiment that has only grown over time.
“I’m happy that he made his dream come true,” he said. “I’m so proud that I can’t even explain it.”
Here’s everything to know about Jayson Tatum’s siblings, Jaycob and Kayden.

When Jayson was born on March 3, 1998, his dad Justin Tatum and mom, Brandy Cole-Barnes, were college freshmen. The future NBA star was raised primarily by his single mom in St. Louis, where Brandy studied at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and held part-time jobs to make ends meet for them.
Jayson also spent time with his dad while he was a basketball star at Saint Louis University. After Justin graduated, he played professionally overseas, and Jayson “didn’t see him much in those early years,” the Celtics guard recalled in an essay for The Players’ Tribune. Justin later worked closely with Jayson on his athletic skills, fiercely training him in everything he knew.
Justin went on to welcome his son Jaycob on Jan. 20, 2004. Like Jayson, he was brought up loving sports, though Jaycob preferred football over basketball.
Justin became a father for the third time with the birth of his daughter Kayden on April 30, 2014. While her older brothers are pursuing athletic careers, Kayden focuses on her early education and enjoys attending games when she gets the chance.

Like their dad, Jaycob attended Christian Brothers College High School in St. Louis, a school with a tradition of athletic excellence. He was part of the school’s powerhouse football program, and in 2021, he and his teammates made headlines when they won the Missouri Class 6 state championship, defeating Liberty North 48-21.
The victory capped an incredible season for the CBC Cadets, who finished with a 13-1 record, riding a 13-game win streak. This win marked the program’s third state title in five seasons and the fourth in eight years.
The championship was a proud moment for the Tatum family, especially for Justin, who also celebrated state title victories during his time at CBC.
“Welcome to the member only club @jaycobtatum. You a State Champion now,” he wrote on Instagram. “Proud of you son! Now you can eat at the table with me and @jaytatum0.”

Though it’s too soon to tell if Kayden plans on following in her older brothers’ footsteps on the basketball court or football field, athletics still seems to be top of mind for her.
Sports runs deep in the Tatum family, so it was no surprise that when she was tasked with giving a presentation in her third-grade class, Kayden chose to dress up as Olympic gold medalist Wilma Rudolph and speak about her different accomplishments.
Jaycob is a college football player

Jaycob is a student at Western Illinois University, where he plays linebacker for the Leatherbacks — but at one point, he assumed his life would go in a different direction.
“Growing up, I always wanted to play basketball,” he told Prairie State Pigskin in May 2023. “I wanted to be just like (Jayson).”
Jaycob explained that after he grew up in New Orleans, he eventually moved to St. Louis to live with his father and attend high school, where he planned to join the basketball team. Before classes started, though, Justin brought up the idea of trying something else.
“My dad asked, ‘Do you want to give football a try because summer workouts are starting now,’ ” Jaycob recalled to the outlet. “I thought, ‘Why not?’ I’ll just give it a try for extra conditioning.”
But the sport left a lasting impact on him, and he didn’t return to the basketball court. “Once I got out there, I fell in love with it,” he added, noting that he only grew to 6’2″ compared to his older brother, who stands about six inches taller.

During the 2024 NBA playoffs, the Boston Celtics faced the Indiana Pacers in a competitive Eastern Conference Finals matchup. Jayson delivered standout performances, helping the Celtics advance to nab the NBA championship trophy.
Kayden showed her big brother support by joining her dad at the games, cheering Jayson on while soaking in the postseason excitement.
Balancing Division I football at WIU is a major commitment, much like Jayson’s demanding NBA schedule. As a result, the brothers don’t get to see each other often, but Jaycob cherishes the time they spend together.
“It’s kind of hard because of both of our busy schedules,” Jaycob told the Prairie State Pigskin. “But sometimes, I’ll take a weekend off and go out to Boston to catch a game and see him.”

Kayden and Jaycob are an aunt and uncle, thanks to their elder sibling.
Jayson welcomed his first son, Jayson “Deuce” Christopher Tatum Jr., in 2017 with his ex-girlfriend Toriah Lachell. Deuce has become a familiar face at Celtics games, always motivating his dad from the sidelines.

The NBA superstar keeps his family life relatively private, but he has provided glimpses of his sweet relationship with his younger siblings over the years.
“Happy birthday to my lil brother @jaycobtatum2 love you lil dude Super proud of you! Continue to be special and create your own path! Enjoy your day kid!” the devoted big brother wrote on Instagram in 2019.
Jayson celebrates Kayden with just as much love and affection. “Happy 4th birthday to my Baby Sis Kay-Kay! Enjoy your day!! bruh bruh loves you ,” he posted in 2018.
A few years prior, he also shared a precious video of a much younger Kayden telling her “bruh bruh,” as she affectionately calls him, how much she misses him, to which he replied in the caption, “Miss you more. .”
