Jamie Lee Curtis is breaking down her latest look!
On Saturday, Oct. 5, the Freakier Friday star stepped out at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles 2024 Gala in an off-the-rack gown that she tells PEOPLE was “waiting for the right occasion” in her closet for two years.
The baby blue button-up collared gown, featuring a few floral embellishments across the front, was created by her friend Wes Gordon at Carolina Herrera. And as she explains, it caught her eye at the store.
“You know, mommy buys her own clothes,” Curtis, 65, tells PEOPLE. “Yeah, mommy bought this dress, I think two years ago at Neiman’s.”
“It was pretty and they were like, ‘Well, what’s it for?’ I was like, ‘I don’t know.’ And then, you know, other things would come up, and I’d be, ‘What about that blue dress?’ And they were like, ‘No, maybe not for that,'” she adds. “And then I was like, ‘but I want to wear a princess dress and it has pockets.’”
Luckily for Curtis, she got the chance to do just that this weekend. And she isn’t a “fast-fashion girl” when it comes to her wardrobe, either.
“I believe in recycling, but I do have a little rack of things that I will — I recycled something at the Emmys last month that I had worn before at the BAFTAs,” she says.
It’s been a busy year for Curtis and a just-as-busy year for her show-stopping red carpet appearances, as she’s been rocking all things red and even looking out for her fellow Borderlands castmates amid wardrobe mishaps.
Back in August, the Academy Award winner assisted co-star Cate Blanchett when she needed some help covering up during an event tied to the film, according to Entertainment Tonight. “Nothing is going on! You know what is going on? I got her back,” Curtis reportedly said as she stood behind her co-star and seemingly held up her pants.
“On every single movie that Jamie makes, she is the den mother,” Blanchett said after the fact, complimenting Curtis for her quick thinking.

Elsewhere during this weekend’s gala, Curtis opened up to PEOPLE about seeing her friend and Freaky Friday co-star Lindsay Lohan in newfound “mom mode” — after she welcomed her first child, Luai, in 2023 with her husband, Bader Shammas.
“The whole thing was fun, just from all areas of it,” Curtis said of their reunion for Freakier Friday. “She just loves it. It’s actually very hard to pull her away from mom mode.”
