When Calls the Heart stars Erin Krakow and Kevin McGarry have been hinting at an engagement for Elizabeth and Nathan since before season 13 began — and this exclusive sneak peek at Sunday's episode, titled "Blessings," sees Nathan gearing up to take an important next step in that process.
But he's not alone. He has a clever co-conspirator.
In the clip, Allie (Jaeda Lily Miller), his niece whom he's raising as a daughter, helps him come up with a plan to figure out Elizabeth's ring size by convincing her to help make some cookies.
"This plan is foolproof. Elizabeth loves making cookies," Nathan says. "You're sure she's going to take her ring off?

"Well, I'm sure she doesn't want sticky cookie dough all over it!" she responds, to which Nathan cheerfully says, "The cookie caper is operational."
Moments later, Allie is at home getting started on the cookies with Elizabeth shows up to help. "You're just in time for the fun part," Allie says.
Then comes a series of puns only true Hearties could love.
"I hope you know, as the Constable in this town, I get to impose a cookie tax," Nathan says.
"Oh, well, that'll be a lot of dough," Elizabeth responds.
Just then, Allie realizes she's still wearing her ring and makes a show of taking it of so it doesn't get "all sticky." Nathan holds out his hand to catch her ring and leaves it open for Elizabeth's as well.
"Oh, good thinking," she says, and turns around to find something. "Behold!"

And just like that, Operation Cookie Caper is thwarted by a wooden spoon.
"Are you sure you don't want to get in there with your hands?" Allie asks.
"I'll let you have the fun," Elizabeth says with a giggle. "No knead for both of us to, so to speak."
Of course, the idea of Elizabeth and Nathan getting engaged and eventually married has come up several times throughout the season, including Little Jack (Hyland Goodrich) asking some of the darndest things about them all being a family.

The hints of an engagement started even before the season began, with the trailer for the season promising "the moment you've been waiting for." In a cute teaser on Nov. 8, McGarry showed Nathan's mustache from the beginning of the new season and said, "This season, Nathan has a big question he mustache Elizabeth."
In real life, McGarry and Krakow are about to take life-changing steps in their respective relationships. Krakow is expecting her first baby with her husband, fellow When Calls the Heart castmate Ben Rosenbaum, and McGarry and his wife, When Calls the Heart alum Kayla Wallace, are also expecting.
