Scarlett Johansson is letting fans in on the fun she had celebrating her milestone 40th birthday.
While on Today with Hoda & Jenna on Tuesday, Nov. 26, the Oscar nominee — who turned 40 on Nov. 22 — shared how she marked the occasion with a party.
“We had a big party. It was like a ‘this is your life’ — it was surreal. I’m still processing it, actually,” said Johansson, who runs her own skincare brand: The Outset. “It was so many people that I just hadn’t seen in a long time, colleagues and costars and friends, like, my high school friends were there,” she added.
“It was really wonderful to see everybody that I loved all together loving each other. It was so fun,” Johansson continued.
While on Live with Kelly and Mark the same day, Johansson noted that her husband, Colin Jost, threw the surprise party for her.
“He’s very good at gift-giving. He always buys beautiful jewelry,” she said of Jost, 42, whom she married in 2020. “He threw me a humongous bash this year. It was a surprise. And I had all the martinis for everyone, and I can’t wait to see the photos so I can remember the night.”
She added, “So many of my friends and colleagues came from all over the place … it was magical. And he put it all together!”
Johansson, who is mom to son Cosmo, 3, with Jost and daughter Rose, 10, with ex-husband Romain Dauriac, also said on Live with Kelly and Mark that her Saturday Night Live star husband is a “very great guy.”

“I’m extremely lucky,” she said. “He’s a kind person and he’s hilarious and thoughtful and loving and he’s a great dad and I love him. I feel very, very lucky.”
While on a different Today segment on Nov. 26, Johansson further elaborated on turning 40. “It feels great,” she said. “I feel like, you know, forever you’re sort of taught that it’s this big milestone that you’re supposed to feel like you’ve reached this— I mean, in some ways it feels like a big deal; in a lot of ways I’m like, eh.”
“I think also you kind of just, like, are less … you don’t care what other people think. That’s so liberating,” added Johansson.
