Amália Theresa da Silva — the Brazilian content creator known as “Vó Da Pomba” — died on March 28, her grandson announced on Instagram. She was 96.
“With broken hearts, we announce the passing of our grandmother, Amalia,” penned Da Silva’s grandson in a post on March 28. “The pain we feel today is too profound to be expressed in words; however, the love, gratitude, and deep longing she leaves behind in our lives will be eternal. Her affection, her light, and everything she was will live on forever within us.”
Da Silva — who had a combined following of over 8 million across her Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and YouTube accounts — was known for sharing her mischievous sense of humor online alongside her grandson, who ran her social media profiles.

The content creator also publicly shared her diagnosis with Alzheimer's disease, which she received more than a decade ago. In a 2021 profile by local outlet g1, Da Silva’s grandson said that creating videos together online had actually improved her condition.
"She has a lot of fun. She's always been very playful and loves a bit of mischief when I'm quietly minding my own business,” he told the outlet. “We've seen a significant improvement. My grandmother doesn't even look 91 years old, and her Alzheimer's is stable.”
In the weeks before her death, Da Silva’s grandson started sharing more serious updates about his grandmother’s condition, including several videos from the hospital by her bedside.

On March 26, Da Silva’s grandson shared the emotional update that his grandmother would be “leaving us.”

“We are cherishing everything. Every glance. Every touch. Every silence. Every sigh. Every second we still have left by her side,” he wrote in a post, including photos of family members by Da Silva’s side. “It is a deep pain—the kind that pierces the soul. But amidst it all, there is love. So much love. Love in the form of embraces, of care, of presence, of hands held tight, of a family gathered together, unwilling to let even a single moment slip away. And I felt I needed to share this with you, because you have never been merely followers. You are part of our story.”
