NEED TO KNOW
- A shopping writer with a dedicated weekly walking routine tested the On Cloud 6 shoes.
- The sneakers’ slip-on design, comfortable insole, and lightweight feel make them her new go-to walking shoe.
I am dedicated to my walking routine and head to my local park for a two-to-three-mile session at least four days a week. To get the most out of my miles, I need supportive sneakers, and I’ve tested plenty of styles. Now, though, I’ve found my holy grail — On’s Cloud 6 Shoes.
I tested the Oprah-worn brand’s slip-on style, and within one wear, they became my new go-to shoe. The easy-on design, lightweight feel, and sleek look sold me, and the fact that they didn’t require any break-in time sealed the deal. If you want to try them for yourself, though, act quickly. Sizes are already selling out.

While I’ve had great walking shoes, all good things must come to an end, and my previous pair was on its last leg. When I received the On Cloud 6 shoes from REI, I practically ripped my black and white pair from their package to wear on my walk. I was immediately impressed when I put them on, thanks to their lightweight feel and sleek design. I love that the Cloud 6’s sole is thinner with a lower profile since popular chunky styles throw off my balance.
They’re just as supportive as those styles, though. The insole has ample cushion and a bolstering arch, and my favorite part is the On Speedboard. It’s a plate built into the midsole and upper that takes the force of your heel hitting the ground and transfers it to your front foot, giving you bounce and propelling you forward. The toe box is wide, so when the ball of my foot and toes take the weight of my walk, they don’t feel cramped.
There are also tons of non-technical comfort-enhancing details, too. The mesh upper is breathable and feels durable enough to take on my walks through wooded areas, and the lined interior makes stepping into the shoes easy. Plus, the Cloud 6 sneaker didn’t cause blisters — even when worn straight out of the box. The bungee laces give the sneakers a custom fit, the back heel is well-cushioned, and they’re available in wide sizing.
I’m not the only fan of the shoes, either. Reviewers think they live up to their name, saying they feel like “walking on clouds.” They particularly appreciate the balanced approach to support, explaining that they’re “not too cushy, but comfortable enough for all-day wear” and have a “stable foot bed.” The slip-on style is also a hit, with shoppers praising the “easy on and off.” They love the 11 color options of the design, too, explaining that it “pairs well with jeans or joggers.”
If your walking shoes have traveled their last trail, pick up my new go-to On shoes at REI, and keep scrolling for more slip-on sneakers from the retailer.
