A newborn baby made a surprising arrival in a grocery store parking lot!
On Sunday, April 13, British grocery store company Asda revealed that a husband had helped his wife deliver their baby boy at one of their store’s car parks in Scotland.
“Colleagues at our Huntly supermarket couldn’t wait to meet baby William after he made a dramatic entry to the world when he was delivered by his dad Michael in the store’s car park,” the company wrote on Facebook alongside a photo of the baby at the store.
“Michael and his wife Dinara were on their way to the maternity hospital in Aberdeen when they realised they weren’t going to get there in time,” the caption read. “He phoned the hospital to ask what to do and they told him to pull over somewhere safe and call 999.”
Michael said that he saw “the bright lights of the Asda car park and thought it would be perfect spot as the ambulance would find its way to it quite easily.”

According to the grocery company, Michael was guided by the call handler “and in no time at all Dinara had given birth to 9lb 2oz William in the reclined front passenger seat.”
“It was a wee bit scary, but it was okay,” Michael said, according to the Facebook post. “The guy on the phone told us what to do; he was great.”

Dinara and baby William were then taken to the hospital by an ambulance, which arrived five minutes after the newborn’s birth.
“William went three days in hospital without a name,” Michael said. “We did consider George because of the Asda connection but we went with William in the end!” (Asda’s clothing, homeware and toy and baby product line is called George)
After welcoming their baby, Michael and Dinara were visited by Asda store manager Linda, who arrived at their home with a bouquet.

The family was then invited to the store to receive a hamper of baby goodies.
“We just wanted to do something a bit special … it’s not every day that a baby’s born in your car park,” Linda said. “William was just beautiful and he was giving me smiles. I was delighted to meet them.”
In January, PEOPLE reported that a woman had given birth to a baby boy called Dallas in a Krispy Kreme parking lot in Alabama.
The baby’s father, who was driving the mother while she was in labor, had to pull over in the parking lot due to the “once-in-a-century” winter storm that traveled across the southeastern United States, according to a Krispy Kreme spokesperson.
