How Prince William and Harry will privately honor Princess Diana on 29th anniversary of tragic death

Prince William and Prince Harry are privately commemorating their beloved late mother, Princess Diana, on the 29th anniversary of her tragic death Monday.

Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield told Page Six that William “has traditionally treated the anniversary of his mother’s death as something deeply solemn rather than an occasion for a public tribute.”

“William has spoken about keeping Diana’s memory alive at home, particularly by talking to his children about ‘Granny Diana’ and making sure they understand who she was.”

The brothers have focused on “celebrating” their mother’s life instead of “drawing attention to the circumstances of her death,” as August 31 has “largely remained private.”

As for Harry, he has revealed his family honors Diana on both her birthday and the anniversary of her death with her favorite dessert: lemon drizzle cake.

Schofield does not believe the brothers — who are currently on the outs — will reunite for the anniversary of their mother’s death.

“[William] knows that the moment the two brothers were seen together, the story would immediately become a highly marketable narrative about Diana finally bringing her sons back together,” Schofield said.

Diana tragically died in a car crash in Paris on Aug. 31, 1997 — exactly 29 years ago today. She was 36.

The vehicle was chased by paparazzi and crashed into a column inside Paris’ Pont de l’Alma tunnel.

Driver Henri Paul and Diana’s boyfriend, Dodi Fayed, were killed instantly, while Diana died hours later at a hospital.

Despite William and Harry’s rift, they have kept their mother’s legacy alive through the years.

The estranged siblings have spoken at the Diana Awards, which highlights youth-led innovation from the humanitarian work of the Princess of Wales.

Harry said at the ceremony in 2022, “I see her legacy in all of you. I see her legacy in a Diana Award community that spans multiple generations. I see her legacy every time I meet with families, young people, and children from all corners of the world. And, I see my mum’s legacy when I look at my own children every day.”

The two also bring awareness to causes that were close to her heart through several charitable endeavors.

William, 44, has continued his mother’s work with Centrepoint, a youth homelessness charity Diana supported as patron.

Meanwhile, Harry, 41, has supported wounded veterans through the Invictus Games Foundation, advocated for seriously ill children through WellChild, and championed HIV awareness through Sentebale — the latter of which he just stepped away from.

Although the brothers now carry out their charitable work separately, both have credited Diana with teaching them the importance of using their platforms to help those in need.

Page Six confirmed Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, are moving back to the UK with their two children six years after quitting their royal duties and moving to California.

Though Harry has reconciled with his father, King Charles, he continues to be on the outs with William because of his various interviews and memoir “Spare,” where he criticized the royal family.
