The Marauder’s Map has been sold!
The iconic map introduced in Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban — the third film in the series — sold for $299,250 at Propstore’s Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction. The sale on Thursday, Nov. 14, makes the map the most expensive prop ever sold from the Harry Potter franchise.
“This auction has been especially meaningful, with David Holmes [Daniel Radcliffe’s stunt double] joining us in the room to introduce the incredible Marauder’s Map,” wrote Stephen Lane, founder and CEO of Propstore.
Prior to the auction, Holmes owned the map. A stunt double in all of the Harry Potter films, he sustained a severe injury while making 2010’s Deathly Hallows: Part 1, and is now paralyzed, using a wheelchair to get around. Proceeds from the map’s sale will go toward his mobility equipment and personal care.
The stuntman was the subject of the 2023 HBO documentary David Holmes: The Boy Who Lived, produced by Radcliffe, who is also a childhood friend.
“I wanted to make something about Dave for years because he’s extraordinary and I wanted to share that with the world,” Radcliffe told PEOPLE at the time.
In the third Harry Potter film, Fred and George Weasley — played by James and Oliver Phelps — introduce the Marauder’s Map to Harry Potter, played by Radcliffe. The magical piece of parchment shows a live accounting of people moving throughout the Hogwarts School, and can conceal its contents with the wave of a wand and a “mischief managed.”

Other props sold at Thursday’s auction included a Sandtrooper helmet from Star Wars: A New Hope and Ray Harryhausen’s Kali Model from The Golden Voyage of Sinbad. They sold for $409,500 and $236,250, respectively.
Thursday was the auction’s first day of four, and amassed $6.8 million. Propstore estimates that more than 1,800 items from other iconic films, TV series and personal collections of music stars will be sold over the course of the auction. The live auction is being held at BAFTA in London, as well as online and by telephone for global bidding.
