A bride-to-be and her future husband aren’t seeing eye-to-eye when it comes to wedding dress shopping.
The woman shared in a post on Reddit’s popular “Am I The A——” forum that her fiancé said is “upset” with her after she failed to invite his mother and sister along with her own family to search for the perfect dress for the occasion.
She said she “initially” thought of asking them and had “mentioned something about it” to his sister a while back but didn’t get an enthusiastic response. She said his sister “didn’t really say much about wanting to go” and noted that she “was going to order her dress online.”
“After a while I thought about it and just wanted to invite my sister and mom to have that moment with them,” the woman shared, adding, “I wanted to experience this with my mom and the less people, the less confusing dress shopping was.”
However, she noted that her future husband took her decision the wrong way, explaining that “my fiancé is upset that I didn’t end up asking his mom and considering her.”
She said that she still planned to include her future mother-in-law to the wedding dress “fittings,” even though she didn’t come on the initial trip to find the perfect dress for the big event, and had told her fiancé that.

She then questioned whether she was in the wrong “for ever even bringing this up to him and them and then changing my mind?”
Several people on Reddit noted that she could have avoided the “awkward” situation if she didn’t hint to her future sister-in-law and fiancé that she would bring her future mother-in-law wedding dress shopping as well.
One person wrote, “You’re not wrong for wanting it to just be your mom and sister but it’s kind of crappy to bring it up to them and not follow through with no discussion beforehand.” They added, “I would just explain the situation to your fiancé and his mom to try and appease them.”
However, others seemed to think that she wasn’t in the wrong for changing her mind about who she wanted to bring with her dress shopping. One person commented, “I don’t even think that you mentioning it then changing your mind is awkward, to be honest. Dress shopping can be super stressful and you’re allowed to change your mind!”
Another chimed in, “Shopping for your wedding dress is deeply personal! It’s YOUR wedding dress! You get to take whomever you want with you!”
They added, “I know I wouldn’t be comfortable with my [in-laws] there… very different personalities, tastes, etc. you’ve done nothing wrong and he shouldn’t be upset with you.”
