A 63-year-old woman from New York who vanished during a trip to Las Vegas has been found dead, according to her family.
Alisa Goods, a grandmother of five visiting Las Vegas to see a friend, was reported missing on Aug. 10, CBS News and ABC affiliate WABC reported.
Two days later, her family began receiving text messages from her phone asking for help, gas money and bitcoin.
Goods’ niece, Alana Calloway, said at the time that she grew concerned about her aunt’s safety as Goods does not drive.
“I am hoping to God for the best, but my heart can’t take what it could be, which is the worst,” daughter Kristen previously told CBS News.
On Friday, Aug. 26, her family announced that their loved one’s body was discovered near Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas, reported WABC and ABC affiliate KTNV.
“Our hearts are broken,” Calloway wrote in a statement shared with those outlets. “We were notified that my aunt was found-unfortunately, not the way we wanted her to be. This is an unimaginable time. Words cannot describe the pain our family is experiencing right now.”
“We just want to thank the public for the outpouring of love, support, and prayers,” Calloway continued. “We also want to thank the media for helping bring attention to this situation. This hurts so deeply. We are still trying to learn the details surrounding her death. We ask for continued prayers and privacy as we grieve.”
Kristen also confirmed her mother’s passing in a GoFundMe, which she organized to pay for memorial and funeral expenses.
“It is with profound sadness that we share the heartbreaking news that our beloved mother, Alisa Goods, has been found and has passed away,” she wrote.
“For our family, this is a devastating loss. After the uncertainty and anguish of not knowing where she was, we are now faced with the painful reality of saying goodbye and making arrangements to honor her life and memory,” she added.
