Gracie Abrams Praises Boyfriend Paul Mescal’s Film Hamnet with Adorable Photos of the Cast: ‘Also I Love Him Surprise’ 

Gracie Abrams is praising her boyfriend Paul Mescal’s performance in Hamnet.

Abrams, 26, shared a series of rare personal Instagram Stories posts featuring sweet behind-the-scenes moments of Mescal, 29, Hamnet director Chloé Zhao, and co-star Jessie Buckley.

“Okay so,” the first slide read, and included a photo of the Normal People alum hiking and checking out a waterfall. The following slide featured a photo of Mescal laughing with Buckley, 36, in between filming the Golden Globe-winning film.

“I’ve found it nearly impossible to find the words to describe the weight of this film and the way it has remained in my bones since I saw it for the first time, but we are sat in the kitchen right now and I am looking back on these pictures and got immediately teary, so l’m just going to say that Chloe is singular,” the “That’s So True” singer wrote.

“Jessie is singular. Paul is singular. Thank god for what they made. Go see it and you will be better off,” Abrams added.

The Grammy-nominated singer then shared a photo of Mescal hugging Zhao, 43, and tagged the Oscar-winning director. In the following slide, the All Of Us Strangers star is seen smoking a cigarette as he wears black pants, a black belt with a gold buckle, and a denim jacket over a red-and-white graphic t-shirt featuring a painting of William Shakespeare that featured a punny slogan, and a nod to his Hamnet performance — “Will Power.”

“Also I love him surprise,” Abrams wrote over the Instagram Stories photo.

The following slide featured a photo of the night sky, over which Abrams wrote, “P.S. the experience of being in a big dark room (three times) packed full of people feeling and sobbing and holding each other… A reminder and a relief. Try that version.” The final slide featured a photo of a wooded area full of birch trees.

Mescal stars as William Shakespeare in a fictionalized account of the death of the Bard’s son Hamnet, and depicts how the grief of losing a child inspired his profound tragedy Hamlet. Buckley stars as Shakespeare’s wife Agnes Hathaway, of which little is known in historical records. The film is based on the 2020 historical fiction novel of the same name by Maggie O’Farrell.

The film took home the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture — Drama, and Buckley won Best Actress in a Motion Picture — Drama. Hamnet has been praised for its emotionally resonant story and raw portrayal of grief.

Abrams and Mescal were first linked in 2024, when they were spotted sharing a meal in London. Abrams recently accompanied Mescal to the Golden Globes on Jan. 11.
