The first all-female sailing team to contend for the famed America’s Cup is sharing a glimpse behind the scenes of their underdog story.
In Skydance Sports and Paramount’s Republic Pictures’ film Mighty Mary, a group of “we eat nails for breakfast” type women come together to compete at one of sports’ most elite and exclusive racing events after seeing an advertisement in the New York Times, according to an official synopsis.
PEOPLE can exclusively reveal the trailer for the film — narrated by Hugh Jackman and Elizabeth Banks — which won the Maria Mitchell Visionary Award at the 2026 Nantucket Film Festival.
“I’m proud to be a part of this powerful documentary that shines a light on the extraordinary courage of the women aboard Mighty Mary,” said executive producer and narrator Banks. “This team was groundbreaking, and I hope their story inspires a new generation of women to dream bigger and never give up.”
The trailer begins with news reporters discussing the prestige of the America’s Cup, while showing videos of previous winners celebrating “the holy grail” of boat racing.
“The oldest trophy in international sport is about to take on a new look,” a TV news reporter says.
“There hasn’t been a battle of the sexes like it since the 70s,” another adds.
Female sailors in a team put together by a billionaire are then seen preparing their boat for the race, while aware that many people were expecting them to lose.
“Nobody believed we could do this,” says one.

The female sailors “stunningly eliminated Stars & Stripes from contention, helmed by 4-time America’s Cup winner Dennis Conner,” according to the film’s synopsis.
However, the trailer shows the moment the race results were unexpectedly “upended” after a secret backroom deal emerged, leaving several of the women in tears.

“Hold onto your loved ones, folks. These seas are gonna get rough,” narrates Jackman.
“You’ll want to buckle up for this one, and get a life preserver,” Banks chimes in.
