Todd Sabatini and son Theo went missing in Illinois and were last spotted in Wisconsin

A father and his young son are missing, and a police search is currently underway to try and locate the pair.
Around 12:00 p.m. local time on Saturday, Aug. 8, Todd Sabatini left his home in McHenry, Ill., to take his young son, Theo Sabatini, “for a walk,” the McHenry Police Department (MPD) confirmed to PEOPLE.
According to authorities, the father and son’s loved ones said it was a “normal activity” for the pair, but around 4 p.m., “Todd and Theo had not returned home, and family members became concerned.”
The MPD was contacted, and authorities said that “officers learned this is unusual behavior for Todd.” The father “also reportedly did not have the necessary provisions for an extended excursion with Theo,” police said.

The stroller Theo, 22 months, was riding in was later located behind a local business, and the MPD said officers eventually obtained security footage that showed Todd, 36, with Theo at a Jewel-Osco supermarket, “attempting to make contact with someone within Zion Lutheran Church.”
Police said Todd also spoke “with someone at Taco Bell.”
The MPD’s investigation next determined that Todd later obtained a rideshare and went to the Greenfield Police Department (GPD) in Wisconsin. There, the MPD said Todd “spoke with an officer,” and at approximately 2 p.m. on Aug. 8, Todd and Theo left “on foot.”
“As this behavior is unusual, the McHenry Police Department is actively working with the Greenfield Police Department to check the welfare of Todd and Theo,” the MPD said.
“At this time, that is all the information being provided, as this is all still under investigation,” police added.
The GPD did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment on Sunday, Aug. 9.

In an Aug. 8 Facebook post, the MPD shared photos of Todd and Theo.
“Please be on the lookout for a missing child,” they wrote, highlighting that Theo “was last seen wearing a blue shirt with dark colored shorts,” while Todd was dressed in “a blue/black colored flannel shirt, gray tank top, jeans and Converse shoes.”
The MPD said Todd and Theo could still be in Greenfield “or may have returned to Illinois and/or the McHenry area.”
“They have both been entered into law enforcement databases as missing persons,” authorities said, adding: “We are continuing to follow leads to their current location.”
The MPD also detailed that Todd “is now clean shaven and does not have facial hair.” (Some photos shared by the department show him with a beard.)
