Amanda Seyfried keeps it real when it comes to her beauty regimen.
In a Vogue Beauty Secrets video released March 18, the Mamma Mia! star, 39, talked fans through her “unfiltered eczema routine,” and she was immediately praised online for starting the clip with a bare face.
“You might be thinking: ‘What’s that on her face?’” Seyfried said in the clip, that was shared on YouTube and TikTok.
She added, “That’s my eczema, and I, too, suffer from perioral dermatitis.”
Per the National Institutes of Health (NIH) website, “Perioral dermatitis is a benign eruption that occurs most commonly in young, female adults, consisting of small inflammatory papules and pustules or pink, scaly patches around the mouth.”
Seyfried said of dealing with the skin conditions: “When I was 19, I started developing a rash, and I learned about a lot of medicated products — I learned a lot about just products in general from my dermatologist at the time.”
After washing her face with the Jenette Cacao Herb Infused Soap Bar in the clip, she admitted, “The rash is screaming. But that’s OK, because I’m gonna cover it, so I can go out in public. It’s funny how eczema makes you feel.”
“I’m using this medicated cream for this little cutie mustache,” the Mean Girls star said, adding that her skin “has gotten better over the years.”
Seyfried then added Lancôme Tonique Confort Hydrating Toner and Versine Gentle Actives Clarity Crème-Serum, as well as Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra Wear Foundation, among other products to get her natural look.
“You see how easy that was? I don’t need to get rid of all the redness — I wouldn’t know how to even try,” Seyfried said in the clip, telling fans, “This is not a red carpet look.”
“This is me doing my makeup to look pretty and clean,” she insisted.
Multiple people praised Seyfried in the comments section, with one person writing, “So happy to see real skin with no botox and filters on,” calling the actress “truly beautiful.”
Another commented on the YouTube video, “She’s real and just accepted her skin and age. I support 100%.”
“As someone with eczema, I just want to thank her and Vogue for not putting a filter over to hide her skin! It’s encouraging to see someone as beautiful also struggling with a similar thing,” a different person shared.
“Wow! She’s so real and upfront about her eczema. Makes me love her even more,” one praised.

Elsewhere in the video, Seyfried opened up about experiencing insecurity while on modeling jobs as a child.
The star recalled being at a shoot for the child and teen store Limited Too (which became defunct in 2009 and eventually merged with Justice) with other kid models — including Leighton Meester, who she mentioned in the video.
“Everybody was so pretty and I was just so awkward, and I had braces at one point,” she said in the clip. “And I remember going to the bathroom and putting mascara on — because no one was putting mascara on me because I was a kid, and I felt ugly.”
Seyfried continued, “That poor little girl. ‘Cause I look back at these pictures [and] they’re so beautiful. Like, we all looked so happy and youthful, and it goes to show, like, the pressure we put on ourselves at such a young age.”
