Erin Andrews is sharing her style strategy for reporting from the NFL sidelines.
The sportscaster, 48, opened up about why she never wears heels at work during an appearance on the Wednesday, Sept. 2, episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast.
“First of all, let’s talk about what goes on on the sidelines … you have to be in shape because you’re on your feet for four and a half hours, which is wild,” Andrews said.
She continued, “Another thing that’s difficult: You may have a fantastic outfit, but baby girl, you are wearing flats.”
The reporter explained that the number of obstacles on the NFL sidelines makes it difficult to wear heeled shoes. “You’ve got a field. You’ve got wires. You’ve got cameras. You’ve got 300-lb. men. You have benches. You have trainers,” she said. “ … there’s so much that you are high-stepping, tiptoeing, pointe-shoeing on. It is banana land.”
When host Alex Cooper asked Andrews if she’s ever worn a heel while reporting, she replied, “I can’t! I would sink.”
She added that even early in her career, she wouldn’t wear heels. “I’m pretty much a tomboy anyway, and I like to be comfortable on my feet,” said Andrews. “I’ve done a pointed shoe where I feel so fantastic and stylish. I’m like, ‘Give me the sneaker. Give me the sneaker back.’”

Earlier this year, Andrews went viral for bundling up from the cold in a massive fur coat on the sidelines of the San Francisco 49ers vs. Philadelphia Eagles playoff matchup.
As clips and screenshots of the Jan. 11 appearance circulated online, fans shared their thoughts on the ensemble, offering everything from praise to pop culture comparisons.
Andrews reacted to the fanfare in an interview with Glamour, saying that she had “zero clue” about the social media buzz until the game was over.

“I knew when my stylist, Daniela Romero, suggested I wear it that it was outside the box and super fun — and I thought Philly was the best place to do it,” Andrews told the outlet. “I forgot I was even wearing it when I did my first hit with the NFL on FOX Pregame Show because I was so locked in. I was intro-ing Christian McCaffrey, and it’s the wild card; it’s a big deal.”

Glamour also revealed that Andrews’ coat is the Fox Jacket by outerwear brand Auter, founded by designer Rob Zangardi. The 100% faux fur piece retails for $950.
The reporter mused that the public’s reaction could be because “it’s such a different look for me.”
“In the wind, I know it looked like a Beyoncé video,” she said. “It felt fun, it felt fabulous, it felt like a big event, it felt like a big wild card playoff game on FOX. It was the perfect time to wear this piece and I’m so excited we did it.”
