Chappell Roan joined her friend, Elton John, for an incredible performance on Oscars night.
On Sunday, March 2, Roan, 27, took the stage with the “Rocket Man” star, 77, to sing his 1974 hit “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” at the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s Academy Awards viewing party.
In a clip shared on John’s Instagram page, he belted out the lyrics while sitting at the piano as Roan danced and sang along beside him.
John also donned a sparkly pink cowboy hat to perform Roan’s much-loved track “Pink Pony Club” with her at the star-studded event in West Hollywood.
He captioned the social media post, “Sharing this moment together at #EJAFOscars was nothing short of magical 💖 For one night, we transformed West Hollywood Park into our own Pink Pony Club – a space filled with love and community, where everyone can be unapologetically themselves ✨.”
Ahead of Sunday’s performance, John recalled Roan being on his Rocket Hour show in September 2023, writing that it’s “been such a joy” to see her rise to success.
“From the moment we heard @chappellroan, we knew she was going to be a star,” he captioned an Instagram post, adding, “Not only is she an incredible talent, but she also uses her voice and platform to stand up for her beliefs.”
“We can’t wait for her to join us this Sunday at @ejaf’s Oscar Party as we come together to raise vital funds for our mission and to show the world that love will always win ❤️ #EJAFOscars,” John continued in the caption.
Roan also appeared on John’s show in late May 2024, with him revealing how much he inspired her.
“I rang you the other night and said, ‘Listen, I’m not stalking you, but I’m as excited about your album’s success as you are,’ ” John said. “It’s wonderful to see true talent being recognized.”
