Don’t expect Lexi Jones to sport a Ziggy Stardust look anytime soon.
After David Bowie and Iman’s daughter quietly released her debut album Xandri earlier this month, she shared a vulnerable poem to Instagram about how she’s “not a copy” of her late father, who died of liver cancer on Jan. 10, 2016.
The poem, titled “David Bowie’s Daughter,” opens with musings on being the child of a “legend” but feeling like “more than just his name.” Jones notes that people “see the blood” and “hear the sound” but “fail to see her” as a unique being.
“They compare me to his heights, like I’m supposed to reach his light, but I’m not here to chase what’s already been done,” she writes. “By loving what I do, I feel I’ve already won.”
Jones’ poem continues with thoughts about how she’s garnered both fans and people who “laugh at how I move,” while the same individuals expect her “to carry on a legacy” that isn’t her “truth.”
“I’m not a copy, not a shadow. I’m just a girl that’s as confused as you,” she adds.
“I’m not trying to be that someone, that all love and admire so. I’m creating my own rhythm, letting my true self show,” says Jones. “But nobody knows how it may feel, to be constantly despaired, then finally just saying ‘f— it,’ then being all around compared.”
The poem concludes, “But I’ll keep moving, keep doing me, even when the world is hard to please. I’m not trying to fill his shoes. I’m just trying ot find my own peace.”

Bowie — who also shares son Duncan Zowie Jones with ex-wife, model and actress Angie Bowie — and Iman welcomed Lexi in 2000. Five years later, the Somali American model told PEOPLE of their family in an interview, “We are very normal.”
At the time, Iman would take Lexi to music and dance lessons, and she said Bowie and Lexi would play music together all the time. Fast forward about two decades, and their daughter’s debut album was released on April 2.
