Dana Carvey got preachy and took viewers back to Church Chat on the latest episode of Saturday Night Live.
During the Dec. 7 cold open, the Wayne’s World star, 69, reprised one of his best-known SNL roles as the Church Lady and offered some stinging commentary on the year 2024, which she called “the most satanic year in history.”
The Church Lady also scolded a slew of sinners of the political kind during her Church Chat talk show, including President Joe Biden’s recently pardoned son, Hunter Biden, played by fellow SNL alum David Spade, and controversial former Florida congressman Matt Gaetz, played by Sarah Sherman.
“Welcome to Church Chat. I’m the Church Lady,” Carvey told the audience. “You know, it’s great to be back to ring out the end of 2024, the most satanic year in history. Instead of Mother Mary, little girls are looking up to the Hawk Tuah girl. Well, you know what I say, instead of hawk tuah-y, you need to walk tuah-y to a church.”
Carvey continued, “Have you seen Wicked? It’s just like The Wizard of Oz, but instead of saying, ‘Lions, tigers and bears, oh my,’ they say, ‘Lions, tigers and sluts, oh yes.’ A little bit different. Everywhere you look, you’ve got 11-year-olds dressing up like that vixen Sabrina Carpenter. Well you know who was the best carpenter: Jesus.”
Sherman’s Gaetz was then the first to be grilled by Church Lady, who told the politician that he looks very familiar. As Gaetz guessed that it’s either Leonardo DiCaprio or Brad Pitt, the Church Lady replied, “No, it’s not that. I just tried to knock on my noggin. Could it be? Satan! I caught you off guard, didn’t I?”
Carvey’s Church Lady then poked fun at Gaetz’s recent scandals. “Matt, let’s see if I have this straight. You were involved in some little sexual peccadillos? They wrote a whole report about it, but somehow we never got to see it, did we? Isn’t that convenient?,” she said.
“For me it is, yes,” replied Gaetz, as Carey responded, “You better repent Matt. There’s 17 days left to Christmas.”
“You had me at 17,” Gaetz exclaimed in response..
Next up was Spade, 60, with his impression of Biden, who said, “Hi Church Lady! I haven’t been here in a while. I’ve been laying low a little bit.”
“That’s okay, at least you haven’t been doing a podcast,” Carvey’s character teased.
“Some people aren’t too happy about your pardon,” the Church Lady then said, before she continued to make jabs about Biden’s recent exploits.
However, Spade’s Biden quipped, “Well, they singled me out just because of who I am. Much like Trump, they went after me because of my last name and all the illegal things I did.”
“Well, isn’t that special?!” the Church Lady then screamed.
