A cyclist was killed following a crash with a young e-bike rider on a California bike path.
The Davis Police Department said in a news release that officers responded to a report of a collision on a bike path near W. Covell Blvd and Catalina Drive, around 2:48 p.m. local time, on Monday, March 2.
Upon arriving at the scene, first responders found both bicyclists with injuries.
“One individual was pronounced deceased on scene,” police said. “The second bicyclist sustained minor injury and is cooperating with investigators.”
The deceased victim has not been named pending notification of next of kin, authorities added in their statement. An investigation is ongoing.
According to police, the victim who died was a female, while the surviving bicyclist is a juvenile male who was riding an e-bike, NBC affiliate KCRA reported.
The collision occurred near Davis High School, but investigators could not confirm if the juvenile boy is a student at the school, the outlet noted.

Michael Shearer, a cyclist and minister at the Davis Bike Collective, placed flowers in the vicinity of the bike path to pay respects to the bicyclist who died, according to KCRA.
"This strikes hard because, you know, a family is sad. Somebody is dead,” Shearer said.
Police said that the bicycle path in the vicinity was temporarily closed for the investigation. Anyone with any information about the collision is asked to call the department at 530-747-5400 or email policeweb@cityofdavis.org.
“We extend our condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased,” police added.
