Molly Baz is sharing her “nightmare” account of the Los Angeles wildfires.
The celebrity chef, 36, revealed in a newsletter sent out on Saturday, Jan. 11 that she lost her home in the ongoing blaze but her family is “safe.”
“On Wednesday night, the unthinkable happened, and along with thousands of others in Los Angeles, we lost our home to the fires,” Baz wrote, adding, “I lived a nightmare.”
“I am safe, Ben is safe, Mr Boots and Toons are safe, and nothing matters more than that,” she continued, referring to her husband Ben Willett, their 7-month-old son Gio and dog Tuna.
Baz said she “experienced a broader and deeper range of emotions than I knew was possible” in the days since losing her family home. “I am grateful for that. In some moments I am able to see the value and the lessons in this loss. In others, I see darkness,” she reflected.
Following the nightmare experience, Baz said “the show will go on” and that she plans to get back to cooking as soon as she is “back on my feet.”
“Cooking is my life’s work. The Club gives me purpose and the fires did not take that,” she continued in the newsletter. “It will be a moment before I’m back on my feet but I promise you there’s plenty more joy and deliciousness to come in this little space we have created.”
Baz shared that she won’t be “releasing a recipe this week” although she knows what the next recipe will be. Since losing her home, she has been “continuing to carve out space and find time to do what I love” which “will be so important in the coming months” as she rebuilds her life with her family.

Baz posted a photo of her home before it was burned down on her Instagram Stories on Friday, Jan. 10. In the snap, her son Gio is seen sitting in his high chair by the island in a kitchen lit with candles at night.
“The last photo I took before we lost it all,” she wrote. “We’ll recover someday. Thank you to the village ❤️ .”
In July 2023, Baz described the property as her “favorite place” as she shared photos of her and Willett in their L.A. home which he designed.
The chef joins several celebrities who lost their homes and 80,000 people who have been displaced since the fires started in the Pacific Palisades on Jan. 7.
At least 16 people have died, according to the LA County Medical Examiner.
