Cedar Point's "Monster" has been slain.
The long-running ride has closed after more than 50 years at the Ohio amusement park, officials confirm.
“Monster has been permanently removed from our ride lineup. It has reached the end of its serviceable life as replacement parts are challenging to locate. It will not be relocated and there are no plans for the site," Park spokesperson Tony Clark said in a statement to 3News.

The fallen beast featured six tentacles, or arms, each with four cars that held two riders and moved up and down while spinning around.
"Throughout the ages, legends have been told of dark, dastardly creatures roaming the depths of the underworld — sporting countless, gripping tentacles and harboring even more evil intentions. But they’ve never made it to land. Until now. Cedar Point’s Monster ride envelopes guests in pods of fear and tosses them about on a wild, wicked course," the park said in a description of the ride on its website.
The family-friendly ride first opened in 1970. It was located near the back of the park, close to the Gemini roller coaster in an area known as the Gemini Midway. Monster was renovated as part of the Gemini Midway overhaul in 2014, which also included the debut of two other rides, Pipe Scream and Lake Erie Eagles. The removal brings the the total number of rides at the park to 66.
On Monday, April 6, the Six Flags Entertainment Corporation, which operates Cedar Point, announced it successfully closed the previously announced sale of six U.S. parks: Minnesota’s Valleyfair, Michigan’s Adventure, the Schlitterbahn Waterpark Galveston in Texas, Six Flags St. Louis and Six Flags Great Escape in New York. Cedar Point was not included in the sale.
Cedar Point opens for the season on May 9.
