A bus crashed and left a huge hole in an Albemarle County, Va. home on Tuesday, March 4, according to Local 12, CBS 19, and 29 News.
On Tuesday morning around 8:30 a.m., a Charlottesville Area Transit bus was en route to the Fashion Square Mall area and then struck three cars before it crashed into a house and left a gaping hole.
After it crashed into the single-family home, the bus flashed a message that read, “Sorry. Not in service.”
Albemarle County Police Department and Fire Rescue then responded to the scene. The homeowner and the bus driver were transported to UVA Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. “No additional injuries have been reported at this time,” per Charlottesville Area Transit news release.
Charlottesville Area Transit Marketing Coordinator Alex Paqualone said that “the bus was in service, but the bus driver was the only person on that bus.”
Carson Foltz, one of the drivers, described the incident as “very scary,” telling CBS 19, “I felt like there was no effort to stop.” She believes the bus was driving “definitely 60 or 70 miles per hour plus.”
She said another witness informed her after the incident that the bus was swerving and “driving completely erratic, like up on a sidewalk,” and then struck Foltz’s car.
“I definitely thought someone was killed for sure,” Foltz said. Despite her assumption and the bus’ dangerous path, no one was seriously injured or killed.
The Albemarle County Police Department is investigating the crash, and the Charlottesville Area Transit is cooperating with authorities in the investigation.
