A herd of cattle crashed a couple’s intimate wedding ceremony.
Francesca and Max invited only their closest family and friends to witness them tie the knot at the bride’s childhood home in Scotland on May 11, 2024, but international wedding photographer Brittany Niehaus noticed “some unexpected guests” at the outdoor ceremony.
“As everyone started to take their seats, the cows in the neighboring field decided to join in, making their way over to watch the ceremony,” Niehaus captioned a now-viral wedding video and photo compilation posted on Instagram on Jan. 20.

“We couldn’t stop laughing as Francesca and Max’s guest count suddenly doubled, with more than half being cows!” she continued. “Amazingly, the cows were very respectful, not making a single ‘moo’ or sound until the ceremony was over.”
While the cows were not a part of the wedding plan, the bride and groom saw the surprise as a “fun and unique memory.”
“Don’t let the cows fool you, though—Francesca and Max were still the stars of the show! They radiate so much positivity, and as cheesy as it sounds, they really brought the good vibes,” Niehaus concluded her post. “Their energy and warmth are infectious—maybe that’s what even drew the cows in!”

Commenters on Instagram found the cows crowding the altar to be hilarious.
“And they ALL wore white…..,” one joking comment with more than 57,000 likes reads.
Another user teased: “Did you say ‘I moo’?”

Francesca told CTV News that cows approaching humans in that area is actually common.
“I never thought that it was going to happen but it happens a lot there,” she said.
Francesca explained that her wannabe sheep dog, her pug Jimmy, began barking at the wedding, “rounding up the herd.” By the time she finished walking down the aisle, Jimmy stopped barking and the cows lined up at the fence.

Despite the well-behaved cows not moving during the ceremony, they were still a little distracting. But the bride actually appreciated them stealing some of the attention.
“I was also really nervous, like most people are, so it was almost like a good distraction because it made me laugh and it made other people laugh,” Francesca said. “So it almost helped.”
