Will Billy Idol get inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year?
After the “Rebel Yell” singer was announced as a nominee for the Rock Hall’s class of 2025, he opened up about what the induction would mean to him in a new interview with Consequence.
“When I think about all the people that … even if you think about the people from the ’50s, like Chuck Berry and Little Richard and Buddy Holly and Bo Diddley, just the idea that you could be in something with people like that is like so nutty,” Idol, 69, told the outlet.

“It’s incredible. What an incredible honor,” added the first-time Rock Hall nominee. “It just seems to me like an incredible honor.”
Idol is one of 14 performers nominated for the Rock Hall’s class of 2025 alongside Bad Company, the Black Crowes, Mariah Carey, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Joy Division/New Order, Cyndi Lauper, Maná, Oasis, OutKast, Phish, Soundgarden and The White Stripes.
Elsewhere in the Consequence interview, the “Dancing with Myself” performer spoke about his potential induction speech. “You get a chance to really thank your fans, which obviously you can do that in an email or a text or something. But is it gonna be as meaningful as me standing there? Actually thanking them for sticking with me through a lifetime,” he said.

“All the different sort of times I have gone through, people have stuck with us. You get a chance to really thank them. That’s a great moment, I think,” continued the Grammy-nominated star.
Looking forward to a potential induction, Idol noted he’d also want to give one of his Generation X bandmates his flowers in a speech. “I would would talk about Tony James and how we started out, and how we were doing it purely for the love,” he said.

Idol added, “The idea that I did it for the love, and then it led to this long career and even possibly being inducted into the Rock and Hall of Fame, it just shows you that if you do it for the right reasons, maybe some of the best things in the world can happen to you.”
At the end of April, the “White Wedding” artist — whose new album Dream into It is out April 25 — will embark on a North American tour with Joan Jett and the Blackhearts through September.
In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Lauper spoke about feeling “excited” and “grateful” for her nomination, which marks the “Time After Time” singer’s second time up for induction into the Rock Hall. “And we’ll see what happens,” she said.
