NEED TO KNOW

  • Bad Bunny deleted all of the posts on his Instagram account following his Super Bowl halftime performance on Sunday, Feb. 8
  • The Puerto Rican star left his over 50 million followers guessing why he had wiped the slate clean, with many hoping for a major announcement, while others speculated the move was due to backlash
  • President Donald Trump described Bad Bunny’s halftime show as “absolutely terrible” in a Truth Social post

Bad Bunny appears to be taking a break from posting on social media.

Just hours after his Super Bowl halftime show on Sunday, Feb. 8, the Puerto Rican star (real name Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio), 31, removed all of the posts on his Instagram grid along with his profile photo. He also unfollowed everyone, leaving just a link to his album, Debí Tirar Más Fotos in his bio.

Bad Bunny did not announce to his 50 million followers why he was undertaking the major overhaul before deleting almost everything.

Many fans speculated on social media that the move was a teaser for a big upcoming announcement, while others considered that he may be receiving backlash for his entirely Spanish performance.

During his headline halftime show for the Apple Music Super Bowl LX at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., the "Me Porto Bonito" singer was joined by several celebrities, including Lady Gaga, Ricky Martin, Cardi B and Pedro Pascal.

He displayed a variety of flags representing countries throughout the Americas as he focused the performance on unity.

Despite mostly avoiding U.S. politics with the halftime show, Bad Bunny sparked a conversation about Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) when a child actor featured was mistaken by viewers for Liam Ramos.

Ramos, 5, was recently released from a detention center in Texas alongside his father, Adrian Conejo Arias. The pair, originally from Ecuador, went viral in January after they were detained by ICE agents when they returned from preschool in Minneapolis.

It was later revealed that the child featured in Bad Bunny’s halftime show was, in fact, the 5-year-old actor Lincoln Fox.

Bad Bunny also got viewers talking about his halftime performance on social media by featuring a real wedding on the football field, as previously confirmed by PEOPLE. The bride and groom's names have not been shared publicly.

However, not everyone was impressed by the headliner's performance.

President Donald Trump described the halftime show as “absolutely terrible” in a post on Truth Social, adding, “It makes no sense, is an affront to the Greatness of America, and doesn’t represent our standards of Success, Creativity, or Excellence."

"Nobody understands a word this guy is saying, and the dancing is disgusting, especially for young children that are watching from throughout the U.S.A., and all over the World," he continued. "This 'Show' is just a 'slap in the face' to our Country, which is setting new standards and records every single day — including the Best Stock Market and 401(k)s in History!"

Trump added that the performance wasn’t inspirational and also complained about the NFL’s “ridiculous new Kickoff Rule.”

“MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” he concluded.

A representative for Bad Bunny did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment about his wiped Instagram account on Monday, Feb. 9.
