Avery the Poke Kid, a 12-year-old social media star with stage 4 pancreatic cancer, has entered hospice.
On Thursday, Sept. 17, Avery’s parents, Christian Garcia and Rebecca Rosa-Valentin, shared the health update for their son in a post on Instagram, writing that his latest scans showed “extensive progression” of his cancer, including tumors in both of his lungs, a tumor on his shoulder and a tumor in his liver.
“For now, our focus is Avery,” his parents wrote. “Keeping him comfortable. Keeping him laughing and smiling his beautiful smile. Giving him things to look forward to and reminding our handsome boy every single day just how unbelievably loved he is.”

They added that they “don’t know what the days ahead will look like or how much time we have,” but that they’re “choosing to be together as a family and cherish every moment we’re given.”
“We’re still here. Still hoping. Still praying, begging even, for any semblance of a miracle,” they wrote. “But most importantly, we’re making sure our handsome boy knows just how deeply he is loved. Please keep Avery in your prayers.”
Nearly eight years ago, Avery was diagnosed with pancreatoblastoma, a rare malignant tumor of the pancreas that is diagnosed most often in children under 10. In the years since, he has undergone multiple surgeries, radiation treatments, and entered hospice on two other occasions.
Avery, who has a love for Pokémon, started sharing photos and videos on social media under the name “Avery the Poke Kid” over the last year — documenting his treatments and opening new Pokémon packs. Across his Instagram, YouTube, TikTok and Facebook accounts, he has amassed a following of over 600,000.

Despite his diagnosis, Avery has always had a dream to be a content creator and had the goal to surpass 100,000 subscribers on YouTube — which he officially reached earlier this month.
