Are Prosecutors Suggesting that Lindsay Clancy’s Suicide Attempt Was Faked? Doctor Points to ‘Superficial’ Wounds

The second week of Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial began with the testimony of doctors and medical professionals who treated Clancy and her children in the hospital.

Clancy is charged with murdering her three children: Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and 8-month-old Callan. All three were strangled to death with exercise bands in the basement of the family’s Duxbury, Mass., home in January 2023.

The children were discovered by their father, Patrick, who had initially called 911 after finding his then-wife, Clancy, seriously injured in the yard. Per authorities, Clancy cut her wrists and jumped from a second-story window after killing her kids.

Clancy does not deny killing the children, but she claims she was overmedicated and suffering from postpartum psychosis and thus not criminally liable.

The murder trial has been streamed live by the Associated Press, among other outlets, and on Monday, Aug. 3, prosecutors seemed to call into question the legitimacy of Clancy’s apparent suicide attempt.

Dr. Kelly McDonough, an emergency room physician who treated Clancy on the night of the killings, testified that she observed “superficial lacerations” on Clancy’s wrists after prosecutors asked about the extent of her injuries.

According to McDonough, the main concern was the injury to Clancy’s spine.

Prosecutors also asked ICU nurse Meghan Collins if cuts to Clancy’s neck and wrists needed frequent medical attention, to which she said they did not.

At the outset of the trial, Clancy’s attorney, Kevin Reddington, seemed to anticipate the prosecution’s apparent strategy.

“This is no fake suicide,” Reddington said during opening statements, as he showed the jury gruesome photos of Clancy in the hospital.

Clancy is in a wheelchair after she was paralyzed as a result of jumping from the window.

The trial began Monday, July 27. Patrick, who has since divorced Clancy and remarried, was the first witness called.

Patrick was on the stand for parts of two days. Previously, he said he had forgiven his ex-wife.

Several first responders testified about the scene they witnessed after responding to Patrick Clancy’s 911 call.

The trial is expected to last several weeks.
