While every politico in New York thinks Andrew Cuomo will run for mayor, the former governor will know for sure by Friday, Page Six has learned.
Sources close to Cuomo tell us he’ll make his final decision after a “formal” sit-down with his three daughters about the matter on Thursday evening. And insiders predict he’ll have announced his candidacy by the end of the month.
“He cares about two things in life — public service and his family, and he has made it clear to everyone in his inner circle, the girls come first,” said an insider. “He’s going to have a formal discussion with his daughters Thursday, after which he will make his official decision.”
And while his candidacy does seem to be a fait accompli, according to insiders, his kids have in fact put the brakes on political races before.
According to his former top aide Melissa DeRosa’s memoir, Cuomo turned down a run for governor in 2022 because his daughters weren’t ready for another campaign.
“He would defer to them again now,” said a source.
Cuomo shares Cara Kennedy-Cuomo, Mariah Kennedy-Cuomo and Michaela Kennedy-Cuomo with ex-wife Kerry Kennedy. The former couple divorced in 2005.
The pol is known to be extremely close with his three daughters, who moved into the executive mansion with him, sources say. An insider added: “No matter what happens, those three girls are his rock, his heart’s homebase, his everything — and the only way he’ll take the final leap is with their blessing and approval.”
Daughters aside, Democrat insiders have told us that they expect him to have tossed his hat in the ring by the end of February.
Cuomo, the son of New York Gov. Mario Cuomo, resigned as governor in 2021 after her was accused of sexual misconduct by a number of women — though he has steadfastly denied the accusations.
His name has been floating around around the mayoral race since it became clear that the historic indictment of Mayor Eric Adams would make his re-election an uphill battle.
The Justice Department has ordered Manhattan prosecutors to dismiss the historic bribery case against Adams this month.
Cuomo would join a field that includes Adams, Brad Lander, comptroller Scott Stringer, lefty candidate Zohran Mamdani and Curtis Sliwa, among others.
