Sarah Jessica Parker has a diamond engagement ring that her iconic character Carrie Bradshaw would be swooning over.
Parker first met her husband, Matthew Broderick, through her brothers, Pippin and Toby, in 1991. The pair started dating soon after and tied the knot five years later in a secret ceremony that they originally told guests was just a party. Since then, Parker has been occasionally spotted wearing her stunning engagement ring — a large cushion-cut diamond with a yellow gold setting.
Throughout their decades-long marriage, the couple have rarely shared details about their engagement and wedding. During a joint interview with Parade in March 2020, Parker explained that they prefer to keep their romance and family life private.
“It’s a point of pride that there are still lines that we don’t cross,” she said. “So we don’t talk about our marriage publicly because it’s ours, and it’s the one thing left that’s really and truly ours.”

Parker has a classic engagement ring with a few unique elements. The sparkler features an elongated cushion-cut diamond — estimated to be about 7 or 8 carats — set on a double gold band.
The engagement ring is reportedly worth between $400,000 and $600,000, vice president of strategy and merchandising at Brilliant Earth Kathryn Money told The Zoe Report.

While Parker and Broderick didn’t formally announce their engagement, the actress was first spotted wearing a diamond ring on her left hand in January 1997. She appeared on TNT’s benefit special A Gift of Song, wearing a blue cowl-neck top and a black skirt. Her new bling was on full display as she wore no other jewelry except for a pair of earrings.

In addition to keeping the details of their engagement under wraps, Parker and Broderick also tied the knot in a secret way. The pair invited roughly 100 guests to their nuptials, claiming the event was just a party on the invitation. On May 17, 1997, Parker and Broderick wed at New York City’s Angel Orensanz Synagogue, with the actress wearing a black dress rather than the traditional white.
Speaking with PEOPLE in February 2018, Parker shared that she had never given her wedding much thought.
“I never thought about a wedding dress. Never. Had not one daydream about it,” she said. “At one point I just simply remember thinking, ‘God, I really hope he asks me to marry him.’ I don’t know when or why. It was fairly early on.”

Parker occasionally wears her engagement ring to public events but is more often seen wearing a simple wedding band. For many years after marrying Broderick, she wore a plain yellow-gold band. More recently, she has been spotted wearing a small diamond set on a metal band. At the 2016 Met Gala, Parker was photographed sporting both rings as a set.

During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen in April 2022, Broderick revealed that he instantly knew Parker was the one for him.
“Oh, the first time I met her,” he said. “I saw her walking down the street and thought ‘That’s it.’ ”
The pair went on their first date a few months after they met, and have spent very few nights apart throughout their relationship.
“We had our first official date on March 8 of 1992 and we’ve been together ever since,” Parker said during an appearance on The Howard Stern Show. “We have never spent a night apart since then, with the exception of work on location, or his mother was ill for a bit so he went to take care of her, but from that first night, we’ve never been apart.”
