Rituals performed under a new moon often focus on manifestation, whether that means calling in love or professional opportunities

Sometimes the biggest career breakthroughs arrive when you least expect them… unless you manifest them.
During a recent appearance on SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up, Alexandra Shipp joined her castmates Lili Reinhart, Lola Tung and Victoria Pedretti to promote their upcoming horror-comedy film Forbidden Fruits.
While discussing the topic of manifestation, Shipp revealed that she once performed a three-hour manifestation ritual during a moment of career anxiety.
Reflecting on the experience, the actress explained that the beginning of 2022 felt uncertain for her on a professional level. “I was really worried at the top of 2022 — like most actors, if you don’t have many auditions or phone calls, you’re like, ‘That’s it, I’m washed up,’” she said.
That’s when she turned to a personal ritual she refers to as a “work candle” spell: “I have this one spell that I do — it’s like a work candle that I make,” she shared. “It’s like a three-hour craft — it’s a lot — you gotta do it on a new moon.”
The new moon is widely regarded as a powerful time for setting intentions. This is when the sun and moon align in the same degree of a zodiac sign, presenting the opportunity to plant energetic “seeds” for the lunar cycle ahead.
Rituals performed under a new moon often focus on manifestation, whether that means calling in love, opportunities or professional breakthroughs.
As a Cancer zodiac sign— which is ruled by the moon — Shipp’s inclination toward moon magic feels especially fitting.
For her ritual, she prepared a candle, set an intention, then lit it and recited an incantation… and from the looks of it, the timing worked out perfectly.
“I booked Barbie like two weeks later,” she said.
Shipp is currently starring in Forbidden Fruits, a horror-comedy that follows a group of young women working at a mall who secretly run a witchy cult.
The film also stars Lili Reinhart, Lola Tung, Victoria Pedretti, Emma Chamberlain (in her movie debut) and Gabrielle Union.
Forbidden Fruits marks the directorial debut of Meredith Alloway, who co-wrote the film with Lily Houghton. Among the movie's producers is Jennifer's Body screenwriter Diablo Cody.
Alloway told Collider that the film is, "sort of a satire," adding, "I hope that there's humor. American Psycho is a big guiding light tonally because I think that everyone in the movie is taking their lives really seriously, and it can be kind of fun to laugh at it, but there are also extremely dark moments that feel very raw and real. You can experience that movie in so many different ways."
"And I think that with Fruits, we sort of took that as like, 'Okay, let's keep it playful,' " the director explained. "Ultimately, this should be a fun cinematic experience, but there are scenes that dig into the brutality of female relationships."
Forbidden Fruits is in theaters on March 27.
