Alec Baldwin is putting his family first.
In PEOPLE’s exclusive first look at the March 16 episode of The Baldwins, the actor and father of eight, 66, opens up about his life at home and admits he has no current plans to return to work.
“It’s interesting to see men who look at me like they think I’m like them,” Baldwin explains to cameras as he is seen playing with children in the backyard. “[They say], ‘Well, like you can only take this parenting thing so far. They’re like, ‘Well, you’re going to get back to work, right? We’re men, we have to work?”

When people ask if he has any projects in the works, Baldwin says, “the answer isn’t a movie or a TV show or a play, although there’s nothing wrong with that.”
“What I’m doing is this,” he continues over scenes of him laughing and having fun alongside his kids. “This is what I’m doing, is raising my kids.”
“Maybe I’ll just step aside and forget about acting and career,” he adds.

Baldwin notes that he had many friends who are “very successful” within the entertainment business. They’re one regret is not spending as much time with their kids as they could have, because they were chasing their careers.
“They strike while the iron is hot,” he continues. “There was a 20-year period from when there were 30 to 50 where they did nothing but work all day, every day.”
When their careers began settling down and they reach retirement age, Baldwin says their kid were “out the door” and ready to go to college. While he’s hesitant to say the parents ended up not truly knowing their children, he adds that is “time that they can’t get back.”

“I don’t want to have that regret,” he admits. “This is the one benefit of having kids later in life.”
Baldwin and his wife Hilaria share seven children: Ilaria Catalina Irena, 19 months, María Lucía Victoria, 3, Eduardo “Edu” Pao Lucas, 3, Romeo Alejandro David, 5, Leonardo Ángel Charles, 7, Rafael Thomas, 8, and Carmen Gabriela, 10. The 30 Rock alum also shares Ireland, 28, with ex-wife Kim Basinger.
With the family’s reality show, The Baldwins, becoming an instant hit, Baldwin previously jokingly told PEOPLE that the kids are “already renegotiating their contract, they want more money, they want a lot more money, so we’ll see what happens” regarding a possible season 2.
