A chemical leak at a Nestlé Purina manufacturing plant in Arizona sent several employees to the hospital for evaluation on Tuesday, Sept. 22.
In a statement posted to Facebook on Tuesday, the Flagstaff Fire Department confirmed the incident at the plant, which produces dry pet food, at 4700 E. Nestlé Purina Avenue.

PEOPLE reached out to Nestlé Purina for comment, but did not immediately receive a response.
In its statement, the fire department said that “Multiple engines and a battalion chief responded to the scene and found an active chemical leak occurring.”
Pictures showed crews gearing up in head-to-toe protective clothing before heading into the facility during the daytime.
Flagstaff Fire Department officials added, “It was reported a few individuals were feeling ill and decided to go to the hospital to be evaluated before firefighters made it on scene.”

A preliminary assessment of the situation determined that a chemical distribution system “mixed 2 chemicals not normally mixed together which caused corrosion in a distribution line.”
Crews worked together and secured the chemical leak.

No serious injuries were reported.
