Big Ed Brown is taking a break from dating.
The 90 Day Fiancé star, 59, spoke to E! at the Nov. 18 American Reality TV Awards about his past relationships, including his short-lived engagement to Porscha Raemond. In September, Big Ed proposed to Raemond after knowing her for just 24 hours, but the pair called it off less than a week later.
“I wear my heart on my sleeve, and I’m very spontaneous, just like I am on the show,” he told the outlet. “And what’s funny is, when you’re on reality TV, and you’re in real life, it’s kind of the same. The only difference is, with TLC, the cameras are in front of you. So I’m that way on-camera and off-camera.”
“I felt a connection with the girl,” he continued. “Unfortunately, the media went after her and it scared her away.”
The television personality, who was previously engaged to Liz Woods (15 times) and Rose Vega, noted that he wants “to be single for a while” — but not forever.
“I think the biggest lessons I’ve learned: number one, don’t ever give up,” he said. “And it’s a numbers game, so if you ask 100 girls out, 10 percent are gonna say yes. 90 percent are gonna say no. So I guess the key is, follow your heart, follow your dreams and don’t ever give up.”
In September, Big Ed told Page Six that he was “amazed” when Raemond walked into a fan meet and greet in Florida, calling her “this beautiful Italian dish.” He went on to describe her as his “dream girl,” saying they “hit it off” upon meeting and made plans for the following night.
He then told a friend, “This is the one,” adding “I want to ask her to marry me,” and the friend encouraged him to pop the question.
Using a paperclip, Big Ed made a ring and proposed at the restaurant, where everyone went “crazy.”
“I [told her], ‘Look, I never want to let you go,’” he recalled. “‘I think I met the one. I want to marry you.’ And she said, ‘Yes,’ and we hugged and we kissed.”
Four days later, on Sept. 23, Big Ed announced on Instagram that he and the 29-year-old had called off their engagement.
“Love is a crazy thing… I did something that was impulsive, I asked this girl to marry me and after considering… It’s too soon and it’s not really what I want, obviously,” he said in a video. “After talking to my family, I realized that I don’t wanna get married. I wanna be single. So I wish her – Porscha – the best in life.”
