A resort spokesperson told local media outlet South Tahoe Now that the boy fell near to the top terminal of the lift.
Sierra-at-Tahoe is around 16 miles from South Lake Tahoe.
The incident comes after PEOPLE previously reported that a 12-year-old girl was left hanging from a ski lift before falling to the ground while snowboarding at the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area in California.
A video of the incident, which occurred Jan. 31, showed the girl hanging from the chairlift as another snowboarder tried to hold on to her.

While people rushed to hold out a net and padding below the girl, the child missed the net and landed on the snow.
A woman, who identified herself as the girl’s mom, then commented under the post and explained that her daughter fell as she'd been unable to secure the safety bar properly.
“She slipped down right away. There was nothing that anyone did wrong," the woman wrote.
Thankfully, the girl had no broken bones or serious injuries.
