- Dyson’s new CameraJet toothbrush uses a camera and software to target and clean gaps between teeth
- The toothbrush connects to an app, tracks usage, and refills mouth rinse at its docking station
- It aims to make oral care easier with advanced technology and design
A new toothbrush with a built-in camera and $499 price tag will floss your teeth for you.
Dyson, the engineering company known for its vacuums and hair tools, has introduced its new toothbrush, the CameraJet. It has a camera that uses proprietary software called Gap Optical Targeting, which enables the device to take 28 pictures a second to analyze the gaps between teeth. Then it sends a burst of mouth rinse to clean plaque, essentially replacing floss.
“Flossing is an awkward and time-consuming chore. Few of us do it even though we know we should,” James Dyson, the founder and engineer, said in a press release. “Dyson engineers and scientists have spent well over a decade understanding oral care regimes and how nasties build up in the mouth. Our research has shown that people consistently miss the areas where plaque forms: the gaps between teeth.”

The mouth rinse is refilled at the CameraJet’s docking station, where it also recharges. The company says that Dyson will soon roll out its own low-foaming toothpaste, since the foam from regular toothpaste could inhibit the camera’s ability to sense gaps between teeth.
The toothbrush head is also equipped with an RFID chip, which keeps track of how often the toothbrush is used — and when it’s time to replace the head. The WiFi-enabled CameraJet connects via Bluetooth to the MyDyson app, allowing users to see inside their mouths in real time.

“We wanted to solve three fundamental problems: how to see those gaps, remove plaque, and how to improve cleaning performance while brushing,” Dyson said. “By combining a camera, machine learning, precision fluid dynamics, advanced brushing technologies, connectivity and WiFi, Dyson CameraJet introduces an entirely new way to keep your mouth healthy.”
The toothbrush is available in two colors — Ceramic Ultra Blue and Ceramic Pink — and is available for purchase now.
