A 4-year-old girl is dead after she was found upside down in a trash can full of water at a Georgia home.
Deputies were dispatched to the 1200 block of Rocky Creek Road in Macon, following a medical emergency called in just before 2 p.m. local time on Saturday, Sept. 19, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
When officials arrived, they rendered aid to the victim, identified as 4-year-old Jayde Wooten, until the fire department and paramedics arrived to take over.
The child was then taken to a local medical facility, where she was pronounced dead.
The 4-year-old’s father told a deputy at the scene that he had just arrived home and realized his daughter was not in her room, according to an incident report reviewed by Fox affiliate WGXA.
He searched inside and outside the house before hearing his daughter’s mom scream, the outlet reported. At that point, the man ran back inside and discovered the child upside down in a large trash can full of water and fish in a bathroom.
The dad grabbed Jayde out of the water and carried her out of the house to get help. A neighbor confirmed to the deputy that she and another nearby resident took turns performing CPR after the mother ran to ask for help, WGXA reported.
An investigation into the little girl’s death is ongoing, and the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for further comment. A spokesperson for the Macon-Bibb County Coroner’s Office confirms to PEOPLE that the autopsy results are still pending.

Following the tragedy, a GoFundMe was launched for the grieving parents to help cover funeral expenses.
“No parent should ever have to face this kind of pain, and their family is now trying to carry an unimaginable grief while also handling the difficult responsibilities that come after such a devastating loss,” wrote the organizer, who did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment. “During this time, they need space to mourn, support one another, and take each day as it comes.”
