Daytime television has been capturing the attention of the masses for decades.

Talk shows, soap operas and game shows have long dominated weekday daytime schedules. There have been constants throughout, including the classic soaps General Hospital and Days of Our Lives, which have both been on the air since the 1960s. The game show The Price is Right has also endured over 70 years.

While some daytime programs have stood the test of time, others have had shorter runs. David Letterman and Sharon Osbourne are among the now-seasoned hosts whose eponymous daytime talk shows, The David Letterman Show and The Sharon Osbourne Show, lasted only one season. Both would go on to find greater success with other television projects.

Here are 14 daytime television shows that only lasted on the air for one season before their cancellations.

The David Letterman Show (1980)

Before the Late Show with David Letterman, the legendary television host tried his hand at daytime television. In June 1980, The David Letterman Show debuted on NBC, the New York Daily News reported.

While Letterman later found success on late night, his daytime talk show was short-lived, airing for about five months. During that time, the show still won two Daytime Emmy Awards, per The Hollywood Reporter, but didn’t make it to season 2.

Still, NBC kept Letterman on and his stint on Late Night with David Letterman began in 1982, running until 1993. Letterman then hosted Late Show with David Letterman on CBS from 1993 until 2015.

Gabrielle (1995-1996)

Gabrielle Carteris’ warm, conversational daytime talk show, Gabrielle, ran from September 1995 to June 1996 before its cancellation.

The New York Times reported that while its production companies were “proud” of the show, it only earned an average Nielsen rating of 1.4, and they weren’t able to move forward with the title.

The Beverly Hills, 90210 star went on to appear in NYPD Blue, Criminal Minds and NCIS, among other projects.

The Howie Mandel Show (1998-1999)

Howie Mandel has hosted America’s Got Talent since 2010, but more than a decade before, he briefly had his own daytime talk show.

Mandel hosted The Howie Mandel Show from June 1998 to April 1999. However, the show aired for less than a year, with Variety reporting in April 1999 that the show had been canceled due to low viewership.

“It’s been a head-scratcher for us,” Paramount executive Frank Kelly told the outlet at the time. “Howie is a guy who is clearly talented, and the producers did a great job. Everything was there, but the audience didn’t show up in the numbers that we needed to make it another year.”

The Caroline Rhea Show (2002-2003)

Comedian Caroline Rhea’s daytime show matched the energy of its apt theme song, “Sweet Caroline,” with its upbeat, welcoming spirit that drew audiences and celebrity guests in.

At the time, The Caroline Rhea Show was considered a successor to Rosie O’Donnell’s show after it ended in June 2002. Later that fall, Rhea’s syndicated program kicked off in September 2002 before eventually concluding in May 2003.  

“It was really fun. I met a lot of people that I still love,” she told The Tangle with Kyle Ridley podcast in January 2026, adding that leading a daytime talk show felt like “something I was born to do.”

The Sharon Osbourne Show (2003-2004)

In the early aughts, Osbourne hosted her own daytime talk show called The Sharon Osbourne Show, which aired for one season from September 2003 to May 2004. The show’s cancellation was reportedly related to a drop in ratings, per Billboard.

Shortly after, in February 2004, Osbourne appeared on Larry King Live, per Today, and spoke about her talk show concluding. “I’ve had a complete blast doing it. I’m sorry that it had to go this way,” she said.

Osbourne went on to co-host The Talk from the show’s debut in 2010 until her departure in 2021 amid controversy.

The Megan Mullally Show (2006-2007)

Megan Mullally may be best known for her comedic work on shows like Will & Grace and Party Down, but she also briefly tried her hand at daytime television.

The actress was the host of the The Megan Mullally Show, airing from September 2006 to January 2007. Variety reported that the show was canceled after one season by NBCUniversal in January 2007 due to low ratings.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, in a short statement post-cancellation, Mullally said, “I am extremely proud of the show we created and am thankful for the passion and tireless efforts of (executive producer) Corin Nelson and the entire staff.”

The Ricki Lake Show (2012-2013)

Ricki Lake hosted her own eponymous daytime talk show from September 1993 to May 2004. However, nearly one decade after closing that chapter, Lake returned to host the syndicated talk show The Ricki Lake Show. The series aired from September 2012 to June 2013 and didn’t make it past its first season.

The show’s cancellation was announced in February 2013, per The Hollywood Reporter. At the time, Twentieth Television said that The Ricki Lake Show was “not able to breakthrough the crowded talk show marketplace.”

“I am so proud of the shows we completed this season, sparking important conversations,” Lake said in a statement. “I will continue to be an active and passionate voice for subjects that are close to my heart through a variety of platforms — and a return to my documentary filmmaking work.”

The Revolution (2012)

The Revolution aired briefly on ABC from January 2012 to July 2012.

The health and lifestyle talk show was hosted by Tim Gunn, Harley Pasternak, Ty Pennington, Dr. Jennifer Ashton and Dr. Tiffanie Davis Henry.

However, the talk show’s time on the network ended only six months. Variety reported the show’s cancellation after one season in July 2012, citing low ratings.

The Jeff Probst Show (2012-2013)

Jeff Probst is well recognized for hosting Survivor for the last two decades, but the television personality previously had an opportunity to host his own talk show too.

Probst was the host of The Jeff Probst Show, airing from September 2012 to May 2013. Despite having a two-year deal, CBS Television Distribution announced the cancellation of the series after one season in February 2013, explaining that “the audience isn’t there to support a second year.”

“I’m super bummed but extremely proud,” Probst said of the cancellation, per Variety. “The truth is all shows come to an end. Ours just ended a decade sooner than we had hoped.”

Kris (2013)

Mogul momager Kris Jenner added “talk show host” to her list of industry accomplishments when she hosted Kris, a daytime show which aired from July 2013 to August 2013.

Following a six-week test run, Jenner’s program wasn’t green lit for a full season order.

Frank Cicha, senior vice president and president of programming for the Fox Television Stations, told The Hollywood Reporter that Jenner dedicated herself to the project but it ultimately didn’t “make sense” for the company.

Bethenny (2012-2014)

Bethenny Frankel’s daytime talk show, Bethenny, premiered nationally in September 2013 and ran for one season through May 2014, following a six-week summer test in 2012.

Although Fox attempted to make a renewal possible, the show’s cancellation ultimately resulted from affiliate clearance issues, rather than poor ratings, per Deadline.

But The Real Housewives of New York star was okay with her show coming to an end.

“I love the opportunity to inspire, to be inspired and to be able to help women to be their best, succeed and feel better about themselves,” she wrote in a letter to her fans following the news.

However, Frankel added, “I am more comfortable in my natural surroundings and in a setting where I’m surrounded by crazy, where anything goes and where I can be authentically me.”

FABLife (2015-2016)

FABLife, a lifestyle-centric daytime talk show hosted by Tyra Banks, Chrissy Teigen, Joe Zee, Lauren Makk and Leah Ashley, premiered in September 2015.

Shortly after its debut, Banks left the series in November 2015 to focus on her cosmetics line, per The Hollywood Reporter.

The program ran for one season, ending in June 2016. Deadline reported in January 2016 that FABLife had not been renewed for a second season and was canceled.

Nick Cannon (2021-2022)

Over the course of his career, Nick Cannon has hosted America’s Got Talent and The Masked Singer, and briefly had his own eponymous daytime talk show.

Nick Cannon was set to premiere in 2020, but was pushed back by a year after Cannon made anti-Semitic comments on a podcast, Variety reported. He later apologized for his remarks on X.

His daytime talk show eventually debuted in September 2021, but it was canceled after one season in March 2022. Variety and The Hollywood Reporter cited low ratings and viewership as reasons for the talk show’s cancellation.

Afterward, Cannon reflected on the experience, calling it “a dream come true.”

“I’m gonna still be here, I’m still gonna do this,” he said on the program. “I ain’t going nowhere, but it’s about broadening my audience and really tapping into my audience in a big way.”

Nick Cannon aired its finale in May 2022.

The Good Dish (2022)

Daphne Oz co-hosted the cooking talk show The Good Dish alongside Jamika Pessoa and Gail Simmons for one season, running from January to May 2022.

The show served as a spinoff of The Dr. Oz Show and included a range of cooking segments and everyday recipes, as well as pop culture and lifestyle content mixed in between.

However, after one partial season, The Good Dish was canceled and not renewed for a second season, Deadline reported in March 2022.
