A first kiss can be stressful enough, but hitting that milestone in front of cameras? Just ask these stars how awkward that was!
Many former child actors saw themselves have big IRL moments at the same time their characters did on-screen. That was the case for Lacey Chabert, who grew up on Party of Five alongside her character Claudia Salinger.
“You are going through all these changes, and growing up in front of people,” she explained during an appearance on Today with Jenna & Sheinelle in July 2026. “Looking back as an adult, I couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to be surrounded by.”
Stars like Kristen Stewart, Millie Bobby Brown, Selena Gomez and Josh Hutcherson also experienced their initial liplocks while cameras were rolling.
Here are 11 celebrities who had their first kisses on-camera.

While Chabert views her time on Party of Five as entirely positive, she has admitted to some awkward moments as she and her character, Claudia, grew up together.
“It was a little bit of a different way of growing up and not everyone can relate to it,” she said on Christine Taylor and David Lascher’s podcast Hey Dude… The 90s Called! in June 2023. “It was interesting because sometimes my character would go through things in life on the show that I had yet to actually go through in life. You know, like my first kiss and all of this kind of embarrassing stuff.”
During her appearance on Today with Jenna & Sheinelle, Chabert again mentioned that big moment, which she said occurred when she was about 13, admitting it was “mortifying” to have her first kiss happen on set.
The “Queen of Hallmark” played Claudia from ages 11 to 17, which Chabert noted encompassed “pretty much every teenage phase.”
Though the actress didn’t name names in the interviews, Claudia’s first-ever kiss was with her character’s boyfriend Cameron Welcott, played by Andrew Levitas.

Miranda Cosgrove

Miranda Cosgrove’s inaugural smooch on the set of iCarly required some interesting angling.
“My first kiss I ever had in my whole life was with James Maslow in the episode where he was in a hospital bed, and I had to kiss him while he was unconscious,” Cosgrove told PEOPLE in June 2021.
Cosgrove starred as Carly Shay on the hit Nickelodeon show from 2007 to 2012. On the season 2 premiere, Maslow made his television debut as Shane, whom both Carly and her BFF Sam Puckett (Jennette McCurdy) had a crush on.
The Wrong Paris actress also experienced her second kiss in front of cameras — and costar Nathan Kress’ then-girlfriend.
“My second kiss I ever had in my entire life was with [my costar] Nathan on the show. Nathan had, like, a girlfriend or a girl he liked there on set that day watching us kiss,” she said, adding that “it was so awkward” because of Kress’ off-screen love interest’s presence that day.

Now engaged to a very famous child actor (that would be Macaulay Culkin), Brenda Song’s first kiss on the set of The Suite Life of Zack and Cody was even more awkward than Cosgrove’s.
Song starred as fashionista heiress London Tipton on the Disney Channel series and its spinoff from 2005 to 2011, and she opened up about the literally sweet moment, which took place during a season 1 masquerade ball episode.
“I got smacked in the face with pie, and then had to kiss a guy, and I remember being so nervous because it was my first kiss in real life,” the Running Point star told Buzzfeed in March 2025. “I was a late bloomer, obviously.”
Song added that the kiss — which was with Ben Ziff, who played Todd St. Mark on the episode — was “the most anticlimactic thing because there were like 50 people on set, and I was covered in pie.”
“But at least it’s on camera, so I’ll always have that memory,” she said with a laugh.

The world watched Gomez’s first kiss when she guest-starred on an episode of The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. She locked lips with star Dylan Sprouse during her appearance in 2006, but several years later, Gomez revealed she actually wanted to kiss his brother Cole Sprouse instead!
The “Call Me When You Break Up” singer recounted her bittersweet first on The Kelly Clarkson Show in March 2020, opening up about her crush on Cole. At the time, Gomez recalled being “obsessed” with The Suite Life and thought she and Cole “were going to be together.”
However, much to the young actress’ chagrin, her character was paired with Dylan instead.
“It was my first kiss — [and] on-camera! It was one of the worst days of my life!” she told Clarkson.
Cole had a few things to say about that moment, jokingly replying on Instagram to Teen Vogue’s article about Gomez talking about the incident, “@dylansprouse I can safely say I’ve never had a girl say this about me.”
Another actress did have her first kiss with Cole on The Suite Life: Victoria Justice.
“My first one was with Cole Sprouse on The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, which is my first guest-starring role in that show,” the Victorious star told Popstar! in February 2011. “It was actually my first kiss, and it was in front of a live audience. So that was cool, and we’re still good friends.”

During an October 2023 appearance on Watch What Happens Live!, Stewart told host Andy Cohen about her first kiss, which happened with cameras rolling on her and costar Jamie Bell for the 2004 film Undertow.
“It’s not like we were literally making out. It was a bit of a peck, but I was 13 or 14,” Stewart said after Cohen was surprised to hear him tell her that first kiss was on-screen. “I was so nervous, I was freaking out.”
Cohen then described Bell, who has been married to actress Kate Mara since July 2017, as “so sweet and so cute,” which Stewart confirmed.
“He is, yes, safe for sure,” The Wrong Girls star said. “And then the director, he could tell I was just red and f—ing non-responsive. And he was like, ‘It’s just little butterfly kisses.’ And I was like, ‘That didn’t help! Whatever that means, I don’t understand it!’ ”

Hutcherson stole hearts as a pre-teen falling in love for the first time in Little Manhattan.
In real life, the young actor experienced his very own first on the set of the 2005 rom-com — a kiss with costar Charlie Ray, who played Rosemary.
“I was 11 years old. I was filming in New York City, and my mom surprised me by flying my dad in for the kiss scene for support,” the Hunger Games alum recalled, per Seventeen. “But it was a horrible first kiss because I had like a crew of like 50 people standing around and watching me. It was the most non-real, non-intimate moment that I could possibly have my first kiss, I think.”

Millie Bobby Brown

Brown had her first kiss in character while filming the season 1 finale of Stranger Things. Her character, Eleven, kisses her best friend Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard).
“It was a strange experience. Having 250 people looking at you kissing someone is like, ‘Whoa!’ ” she told Variety in October 2017.
Though she freely admitted to the publication that she’d never been kissed before, the Enola Holmes franchise actress playfully questioned her costar’s experience, saying, “He says I wasn’t [his first kiss], but I definitely think I was. I think he was just trying to be cool.”
Brown wasn’t the only actress to have a defining smooch come on the Stranger Things set. Sadie Sink, who played Max Mayfield, told W Mag in January 2023 that her first kiss was with Caleb McLaughlin, who portrayed Lucas Sinclair.
“We were both awkward,” Sink said, adding, “It was nerve-wracking at the time, but I look back now and can laugh about it.”

In a September 2013 interview with Access Hollywood Live, Keke Palmer revealed that she shared her first kiss with her Jump In! costar Corbin Bleu.
Looking back, she remembers her 12-year-old self having doubts about the romantic moment on set of their 2007 Disney Channel Original Movie.
“I was very, very nervous. I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is the first person I am kissing outside of my family.’ It was real scary for me,” The ‘Burbs actress said, adding that they did about 20 takes of the scene. “I became really self-conscious; I was like, ‘Should I be having my first kiss on a movie? Should I let that happen to me? Maybe this is all a bad thing?’ ”

Dakota Fanning

In March 2017, Dakota Fanning recalled one of her earliest big-screen stints playing a young Reese Witherspoon in 2002’s Sweet Home Alabama.
During her brief appearance in the film, Fanning kisses fellow child star Thomas Curtis, who played a younger version of Josh Lucas’ character, Jake.
“That was my first kiss. I was 7 years old. He was 10. It was very nerve-wracking,” she told W Magazine.
Fanning went on to recount how, according to her longtime studio teacher, she would “slowly turn away” after every take and wipe off her costar’s kiss, because she was “trying to be kind” but “wasn’t really into” the kiss.
The Sun Never Sets actress then shared that her first “real” kiss was at 14 in her parents’ driveway.
“I remember coming inside and just feeling like everyone could see it all over me,” Fanning said with a laugh, reiterating that she just felt like “everyone knows.”

Candace Cameron Bure

Sorry, Steve! In September 2012, Candace Cameron Bure told Glamour that her first kiss came on-screen while starring as D.J. Tanner on Full House.
During a scripted game of Spin the Bottle at her birthday party, D.J. locks lips with Kevin Gwin (Scott Curtis) during the season 3 episode “13 Candles.”
“It was pretty great between Candace and I right off the bat,” Curtis told fellow Full House alums Andrea Barber and Jodie Sweetin on the rewatch podcast How Rude, Tanneritos! in October 2024. “There was an exciting week leading up to the infamous kiss.”
He continued, “The night that we filmed it, we actually had to get it with audience and then without audience, because [showrunner] Jeff Franklin wanted one take of the audience going, ‘Wooooooh.’ ”

Mila Kunis

Long before they secretly wed in a garden ceremony in July 2015 and welcomed two children, Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher costarred on That ‘70s Show together. Kunis’ first kiss happened on that set with Kutcher, who played her character Jackie Burkhart’s on-and-off boyfriend Michael Kelso.
The Wake Up Dead Man actress previously told PEOPLE in 2001 all about their scripted smooch, which was especially awkward since the two barely knew each other at that point and she had “the biggest crush” on the model-turned-actor.
“I was like, ‘Oh, he’s so cute, it’s the Calvin Klein model!’ ” she said. “Then I was like, ‘I have to kiss him?’ I was so nervous and uncomfortable.”
However, Kutcher soothed her nerves with kindness and humor, with Kunis adding, “He just made jokes and gave me funny little compliments. He made me laugh.”
